Assessor

The assessor is a local government official who estimates the value of real property within the  Town of Burke’s  boundaries in accordance with New York State Property Tax Laws. This value is converted into an assessment, which is one component in the computation of real property tax bills.

The assessor performs many other administrative functions, such as inspecting new construction and major improvements to existing structures. This ensures that the record of each property’s physical inventory is current and that the appropriate improvements are assessed.

The assessor also approves and keeps track of property tax exemptions. Among the most common are the senior citizen, School Tax Relief (STAR), veterans, agricultural, and business exemptions.

Important: Assessor's Letter to Burke Citizens

Seniors will no longer receive a notice requesting completion of the STAR form and a request for the prior year’s income from this Assessor’s Office. Any request for income will come directly from the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance. If a request is received, please respond immediately sending them all requested information. Please feel free to contact this office if you feel you need assistance. See contact numbers  Residents of the Town of Burke who are currently receiving the Basic STAR and will now qualify for the Enhanced STAR, must come to this office to be qualified. It is important that everyone who qualifies for this STAR exemption receives it.
